NETS appoints John Yong as Non-Executive Independent Director
Singapore, 20 February 2024 – Network for Electronic Transfers (NETS) is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr John Yong as a non-executive independent director to its board of directors (Board), with effect from 19 February.
Mr Yong is a seasoned information and communication security professional, with a distinguished career spanning over 40 years across both public and private sectors. Given that technology plays an increasingly important role as a driver of change in the payments space, his appointment as the third non-executive independent director will contribute towards the Board’s capabilities and the organisation’s continued innovation and growth.
In recent years, he has held non-executive roles at established organisations, including PSA International and Singapore Pools, providing guidance in the areas of cybersecurity and technology. In addition, he serves as an adviser with the National University of Singapore and the Singapore Institute of Technology, where he is also an adjunct professor.
Prior to this, Mr Yong served for three years as Group Chief Information Security Officer with Certis CISCO from 2016 to 2019. He played a pivotal role in developing their cybersecurity practice and services. From 2011 to 2015, he was the Group Head/Director of the Cyber Security Group at the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (now known as GovTech). He has also served in leadership roles in the IT Security department of the National Computer Board.
Ms Susan Hwee, NETS Chairman commented, “We are delighted to welcome Mr Yong to our Board. We can all agree on the importance of robust cybersecurity as the bedrock of Singapore’s payment infrastructure. As we navigate the dynamic landscape of digital payments, Mr Yong’s track record in the cybersecurity space will bring valuable perspectives to the Board.”
Mr Yong’s achievements have been recognised through various awards and honours, including the International Data Group (IDG) ASEAN Chief Security Officer (CSO) Awards, and he was honoured in 2013 as one of the most outstanding Chief Security Officers in Southeast Asia. In addition, Mr Yong was also a senior fellow at the S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies-Nanyang Technological University cybersecurity think tank and a board member at Singapore University of Technology and Design from 2014 to 2016.
